Dust mop of Terror!

Dust mop of Terror!

We have such a silly dog.  He acts like he wants to go outside to the backyard, and there are times he will jump at the door with great excitement ready to get out there, but sometimes he will stand inside as he sniffs the air from the great outdoors as it comes indoors.  While he was standing at the opened door, thinking about whether he wanted out or not, I came up with an idea.  He is afraid of our little yellow dust mop, so I closed off the rest of the house from the den and snatched up that dust mop, shaking it just below his tail.  ZOOM!  Out he went!  That dust mop has no teeth, but he sure didn’t want to stick around to make sure.

I got used to persuading him to go outside that way when I had too, but yesterday it rained so no dust mop could convince him to go out.

...I feel like I lost a friend.

Cutsie Quagmire

Cutsie Quagmire

Have you noticed all of the goofy “Christian” posts in Face Book?  I know I have.   Sometimes I cringe to think that the view being presented does little more than to cause the lost people to see Christians as a bunch of silly airheads.  Sure, a well-crafted phrase can grab someone’s attention but oft times that is as far as it goes.

The lost need a clear presentation of the gospel.  The Christian needs the maturity that comes from sound doctrine.

With all this serious stuff being said, I am off to write children’s stories.

Smile!

Jesus loves you.

What to do today...

What to do today...

If I could, I would ride my bike to Mott's 5&10.  In a small town there is little excitement other than setting a destination to ride a bike to and back from.  The thing is, I have no bike and Mott's has been gone for a very long time.  Now it's a barber or beauty collage.  Today, if you leave your bike outside a store like that you may be walking home.

Maybe I can get into my VW bug and check out what's new at Gibson's department store.  I have made friends with a man who works there.  I remember the big stack of Living Bibles they had as you walked in.  Thing is, I sold that bug and Gibson's is a fond memory too.

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping, into the future.

It is so amazing to see how things have changed over the years.  We had 3 Safeways grocery stores.  Now they are gone.  I watched a place in a shopping center go from Skillern’s to Rexall to movie rental to a fancy hair salon.  Winn Dixie is gone too.  Jewel Osco (became Albertson's) is no more.

With all of this pent up energy I think I will just go clean house.

Writing Wrote Rotten

Writing Wrote Rotten

It’s trash day again.  I managed to get it all out and start the coffee pot.  I did it and let my sweet lady sleep, maybe.  Seven o’clock is the time we should get the trash out.  I have been late by only a few minutes getting the trash out and had to keep it a while longer.

I let the dog out.  He was ready!  I watched as he dashed out, walked in a tight circle at the porch and come back in.  Maybe later he will need out.

I like to blog.  It maybe that I do not write well but I still enjoy trying.  My style is more like a conversation.  It’s good to have a story to tell too.  Very carefully I craft my sentences phrase by phrase.   The idea is to give the impression that we are at the table each morning sharing a pot of fresh coffee enjoying the company.  I will write a blog in the daytime once in a while.

Is my coffee ready?

YES!

A few sips later and I will be joining the human race once more.

My daughter edited a blog I wrote yesterday.  I admit, her improvements on it were amazing.  It was clear and the flow was like that of a novel.  She showed me up good fashion but also gave me great pride to see how well she writes.

I finished that mug.  With a longing look down the hall I think about another hit of good high-octane coffee.  I hear a large truck as it groans down the street house by house.  I am still the only one up at 7:57.   In a bit, I will have to hit the kitchen and prepare breakfast.

Today is a great day!  Make the best of it.  Remember that God loves you very much.

Have a great day!

Traumatized Dog!

For a fun comparison, my daughter helped me by editing my very poor writing.... Her revision is on the bottom.

My writing:

Traumatized Dog!

Not long ago we had to leave the dog out in the back yard for an extended part of the day.  The weather is not so cold making it just fine.  That silly guy found some nasty and got it on his face.  With wet paper towels, warm water and soap we went to work.  He was a nasty mess.

When would he be able to get a full bath?  NOT in the tub.  Dog hair down the drain is a bad thing.  It was too cold out side so we had to wait for warmer weather.  Today it came.

My sweet and I were watching The Librarians when our wee one came with the news.  She wanted to bathe the dog today and right now.   Warm enough, but who wanted to unwrap the spicket, get the garden hose out just to put it up again and rewrap the spicket?  I had to come up with a better way.

We have several empty milk jugs in the garage.  Why?  That will be for another time.  I said, “Fill these with warm water and use them!”  Filled them up and we were ready.

The Librarians were stuck jumping from one time line to another.  What’s worse, they were placed in suspended animation when my sweet lady pushed the pause button.  I wanted to get back in the living room with her to see them through.

Outside I had another idea.  Put the doggie soap in one jug, shake it well and use it that way.  OK, I’m a genius.  It worked very well.

Stake in the ground, dog on a leash, soapy water on his little doggie person and he took it like a frightened little trouper.  I came with rinse water when called.  Suspended animation had the team once more as we rinsed the pooch.

By the way, the Librarians are ok.  They saved the timeline.  All is well.

Whew!!

 Her corrections:

Traumatized Dog!

It wasn't too long ago that my family and I had to leave the dog out in the backyard for an extended part of the day.  The weather was not too cold, so it was just fine.  That silly dog got into some nasty and got it all over him, the stench overwhelming in the house.  With wet paper towels in hand, my wife and I tried our best to get it off of him. It was a nasty mess!

We didn't know when he could have a bath since it wasn't warm enough outside. He couldn't be bathed in the bathtub because of his fur going down the drain, potentially clogging our plumbing. So, finally a week later, today was the day we could bathe him.
My Sweet and I were watching one of our favorite TV shows, The Librarians, when our daughter came up with the idea of bathing the dog. Since it was warm enough, it could be done, but we didn't want to unwrap the spicket and hose down the dog and wrap it again. I came up with a solution in which I took four empty milk jugs from the garage and filled them up with water. We added dog soap in one to easily get the job done.

My wifey had to leave the show on pause as our daughter and I worked to get the dog cleaned. The Librarians were stuck in mid-jump from one time period to the next in suspenseful animation when the pause button was pressed. I wanted to rush to get back in there and finish the episode with my Sweet.
Outside, we had a stake in the ground with the dog tethered to it with a green leash. We had him scrubbed down and he took it like a frightened trooper with a few protests. When my daughter would holler for me, I would come with a jug full of rinse water.

By the way, the Librarians are OK--they saved the timeline.  All is well.

Whew!!

My heroes have always had kid shows.

My heroes have always had kid shows.  And they still are it seems.  With today’s technology it can be done on the cheap and done fairly well.  I may could do it with what I have.  Cel phone, iMac and some hand made props.  It would be great is I could use it in children's church.

I do write stories for kids.  I love to come up with something new to tell.  My characters get themselves into all kind of problems.  With a little imagination and a lot of hunting and pecking I get it told.

Captain Kangaroo (Bob Keeshan) has to be my favorite kid show.  He had a cast that was always playing tricks on him.  Mr. Greenjeans has his inventions that never worked.  Mr. Moose and his ping pong balls, I watched for that every time.   When you see the Captain with carrots in hand, you knew he wouldn’t have them long.  Bunny Rabbit tricked him in every episode no time flat.

The thing I most liked is that even with the humor it was a laid back show and even a little educational.  I would love to come up with a show that is like that.  I may be able to do a show more like Gigglesnort Hotel.   Bill Jackson stayed behind his counter.  I could make a stage here at the computer.

Hmmmm…  Would that work?

I need to write more stories and get published….  That has to be done too.

I have a motto for the show.  Every episode should have a Bible lesson.  They should be easy to understand, short enough to keep their attention and repeated a few times in the show.

It is way passed Paw Paw's bed time.

Good night y'all!
