Paper or Plastic

Paper or Plastic

Paw Paw got a job. Yes I did. I prayed for a job. I was given a job. My prayer of thanks has quickly become a  prayer for help. This is the kind of work that I had done for 22 years. There were days that I thought it would kill me. There were days when it almost did. I don’t so much blame the job as I blame myself. The way I looked at it was like this. I couldn’t stand a job half done. I couldn’t stand a job poorly done. I couldn’t stand a job left undone. “Stay out of my way! I will do it myself!” And I did it too! I pressured myself to be in 3 or more places at the same time, and pushed myself to do 3 or more things at the same time. I had a do list in mind that screamed at me until I got it all done before time to leave.

Thursday I was given a uniform shirt, a sealed package of material and was sent to orientation on Saturday. My sweetie took me all of the way to the other side of Arlington for orientation. “Here I go again.” I was in a classroom with many others. Some were half my age. No, they were closer to a third my age. Our teacher was very good. She spoke clearly and made everything understandable. We went through that packet. Everyone had theirs very neat. I had mine scattered several times. “Is this the sheet we are working on now? No! They have a different sheet. Do I sign this here? Wait. Mine doesn’t look like the one they have. OH! We did that one already? I’ll put it over here. I get the white sheet and they get the others? NO! I get the pink and all of the others go with the packet for them. Still not right. I keep the packet with the paper work on pink sheets along with the books and other things. Where were we?”

I am glad to have this job. As hard as it was on me before, how much harder can it be now that I am 57? This will indeed be a challenge. I am only part time. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I need all of the hours that I can get but my concern has to do with my capability to work the hours that I am given.

One fun thing is that I will have more new things to write about. What crazy things will happen there? Stay tune and we will see.

I have begun a new thing online called “Skeptical Curmudgeon.” That will be very different from “Paw Paw Terry.” I hope you enjoy it too.

Ok, so I don't know what I am doing.

Ok, so I don’t know what I am doing.

Here it is, Yew Year’s Day 2016. Many start the year with hope. Some start it with fear and trepidation. I am starting out looking at the financial challenges we face as a family. Things don’t look good.

Do you know what It’s like to have too much month at the end of the money? How would you like to start a month like that? That is what we are faced with today and starting the year with as well.

My sweetie and I have health challenges that prevent us from being able to hold a job. I will not bore you with the details.

We have found something we can do but something has been keeping us from getting anywhere with it. Maybe my posts are not fancy enough. Maybe it takes a “guru” to do this. Maybe it takes a smooth salesman. I am none of these. I saw that as a good thing.

There was a time when I through in the towel. No more network marketing for me. What I saw was deceit, false claims, and trickery. That was not for me! With rough times ahead I had to find something that I could do.

Some so called opportunities were more than we could afford. Some were for products that we could not promote. I guess my standards are higher than my desperation.

What we found is very simple. This is so simple that it is profound. This is indeed something we can all do. Being something we all can do, we may aught to look at this as something we should do.

I was told that I should write lots and lots of blogs. I found out that I love to write blogs. Telling stories of everyday life is fun. The silly things and the funnest things are there to entertain anyone who likes to read them. K-Dog and our little kitty cat neighbor are on most of the blogs. Yesterday we got a kick watching our little kitty cat neighbor cross the front of the house. She would stock her invisible prey to the left and then to the right and back to the left.. K-Dog slept through it all.

No, this has nothing to do with trying to sell jerky. Could that be part of the problem? Between you and me, I doubt anyone would read my blog if it was all about business.

The only thing I would agree to work with had to be on the up and up. It had to be something that truly anyone can do. Sure you hear about many other things but this is the first one that I have ever seen that fit this like a glove. There is one other that came close but not as close as this. What we found does not require you to write blogs, send tweets, hand out cards on a street corner… All it takes is to order two bags of jerky each month and find others who will do that as well.

Do you even want details? What is there to say? The simplest thing is sign up for your jerky and sign up your friends. Do you have friends that will sign up to get jerky? For every one you personally sign up, Jerky Direct will pay you $2 every month that they are still getting their jerky. Every month you are paid for last month’s activity.

Mall Walking..

Mall Walking…

One day, a week or two before Christmas we were in the mall. Sweetie and our daughter were actually buying stuff at Barnes and Noble. I got the traveling fever. Why not? I needed to exercise anyway. Off I go a wassailing or should I say, “a waddling?”  Anyway I went on a walk through the mall.

I like to watch people as I go. Some make me laugh to see what they wear in public. I saw one gal that I felt a bit sorry for. She was so very skinny that I knew for sure that if she left the building the breeze would likely carry her off to the next county. I didn’t know whether to ask if she had something heavy to carry to the car or to show her where to get a great chicken fried steak. You have seen folks that are no bigger than a minute? She was more like 45 seconds. Does she even know where the food court is? The most amazing thing in all of God’s creation is skinny people. How does He fit everything in there?

There are a few stores that I wanted to go into. I always find my way into the knife store. Some of the knives are really big and bad. They even have some swords there too. I like the knives better. If I got one it would probably be a lock blade. I have always been told that a man should carry a pocketknife. You never know when you just might need to cut a string or a box. I have a couple of lock blades at home. The best thing about a lock blade is that if you are cutting something, the blade is locked open. That way it can’t fold up on you and cut a finger.

Back to my walk, I’m on the look out for the sporting goods store. It would be great to have a weight set. If we had the space, which would be the best? I would only get the things that are most practical and not the things that are extravagant. A bench with a bar rack would be great. I am not sure about the dumbbells but I am sure about the bar bells. Would an olympic bar and weights be over board? Where are the curl bars? Maybe a set of dumbbells would be good after all. The universal gym is still a cool thing. The problem is that I could very easily see the grandkids getting fingers stuck in it.

Lets see what else there is out there. Do I really need a new suit? Is it even worth talking myself into that? Me in a suit? Maybe if I was in better shape. Other wise I would look like a short, beardless Sebastian Cabot. Yes, a nice suit would look great but not on fat little me. Should I go back to look at the workout equipment?

Leather? I wonder if there is a leather store. I like leather jackets and vests. Deck me out in leather bur not leather britches! Well it would look better on a less than rotund paw paw. It would look as good on me as it would Archie Bunker as it would on me. That ain’t saying much, is it?

Comfort is just around the corner. I smell the food court in all of its splendor, fried chicken, Chinese food, PIZZA! PIZZA! PIZZA! I don’t know where I would start but I have a good idea how I would end up. Where is that skinny lady?

The Other Golden Rule

The Other Golden Rule

Lord Jesus taught us to treat each other in the way we would like others to treat us. An interesting observation I see is that He said “do” not “don’t do.” When I was at my grandparent’s house being mean to my cousins I would be told, “You don’t want him treating you like that.” That was true but that was not quite what Jesus was saying here. He said, “do.” What you would like for your neighbor to do on your behalf, be willing and ready to do that for him.

There were nine tornados that tore through parts of North Texas only a few days ago. The news covered not only the tragedy and destruction but they told of all of those who came together to help those who were effected. People brought food, blankets, and many other things that were needed. It was a good thing that there were those who were able, and willing to do unto these as they would like to have been done for them if tragedy went the other way.

People are needed to stand in the gap. Not many have the finances to enable them to be as effective as they would like to be. It is good that we pray for those who are in a bad way. Isn’t it better to be the one of those who are providing the food, blankets and whatsoever is needed as well? I don’t know about you but I hate it when someone comes to me for help and the best thing I can say is, “I wish I could. You know that if I had the money, I would be happy to give you what you needed.”

I have heard another golden rule. “Those who have the gold make the rules.” Have you heard that one? Of course you can take this as far as an oligarchy but lets not. Let me illustrate this way. If you are a member of a small church and can only put little or nothing into the offering you may have little to say when it comes to the color of the new carpet for the auditorium.

Maybe you are one of those who are able to and do give. Maybe you are one who gives way over what any of the regular folks can give. This is not the case for very many of us. If you need a good working plan, I think I can help you with that.

Just ask me.

Glasses

Glasses

Paw Paw has to wear glasses now. I’ve never had to before. I’m not sure how long ago it was when I started needing them. If I’m going to read anything, they make it easier for me. I’ll tell you now, I don’t like to have to wear them and vanity has nothing to do with it. As a fact, I think they make me look like one smart grandpa. Thing is, they make me dizzy if I wear them while I am walking through the house.

To keep from losing them, I have many pair in snatching range from anywhere. Each one has its very own station. I can misplace one and still have the others. I can snatch up one from almost any room. I want them handy and I don’t want to lose them.

My sweet gave me a string that attaches to the ear pieces of my glasses. I have to put it back on these that I have on now. It is handy! I can walk around with my glasses dangling from my neck. Wherever I go, there they are bouncing on my belly. As long as I don’t touch the lenses I’m fine.

The time I least like to have to wear glasses is when I am cooking. At the same time this is when they come in most useful. It wouldn’t be a good thing to put cinnamon in the chili thinking it was paprika. I need to have them on while cooking but I forget to. With my hands covered in food particles I go after my closest pare of glasses so that I can make sure the sour cream is still fresh. I know that I must have dropped something on the floor on the way because K-Dog is happy about something that he is licking off the kitchen floor. As we watch TV later he will likely stink up the room reminding us of his good fortune.

If I wear my glasses with the dangle string when I cook, that may be best. Maybe. There are a couple of hazards that go along with that. One time I had to keep them out of what I was mixing so I put them on. I got flour in my eye and biscuit dough on my lenses and my hands were sticky and covered in stuff. My wife was laughing at me from the other side of the room. Who needs TV, right?

Do you like jerky?
Try this!

It's Christmas Today so I'll Mow Tomorrow

It’s Christmas Today so I’ll Mow Tomorrow

Who besides me would spend any time Christmas day on the computer? Nevertheless, here I am.

I had been noticing a few smart aleck weeds as they welcome us home from where ever we came back from. They wave in the breeze in the front yard, taunting me. If I can get out of mowing I will and they seem to know it. Here it is, December twenty fifth and the yard needs to be mowed. Welcome to Texas.

I can mow front and back in about thirty minutes. It’s just that I rather not have to. At least I can say that K-Dog is not having trouble as he makes his rounds through the back yard weeds. The weather has warmed up enough that I am sure that we will be seeing our little kitty cat neighbor stalking her invisible prey through the front yard near the living room windows. K-Dog uses this opportunity to tell her off as she dares to cross his window. Not to worry, she can’t get to him. He knows that he is safe.

The weather is nice enough. The sun is shining. It may be warm enough to keep the back door open later on. K-Dog loves the freedom of being able to go out the door and back in as he pleases. Honest to truly, I think it is only a matter of time before our little kitty cat neighbor boldly comes into the house.

Looking out the back window I dream of the times when the family would gather and I would be cooking burgers on the grill. Those are my favorite kind of days. Grand kids running and screaming, giggling as they chase each other through everywhere they can. K-Dog would love to be part of that but he is too big and they are too small.

There has to be an excuse for me to get out of mowing. I’ll check out the weather forecast online. Well! It’s suppose to rain later today and tomorrow as well.

No mowing for me!

How much fun can you stand?

Why Try?

Why Try?

That is a good question which will have to be met with, "If this doesn't work try something that will."
